If only I were you

Texte écrit le vendredi 20 octobre 2000

If only I were you, I would love that guy,
He must be in love, the way he looks at you.
You must be more handsome, at least to his eyes,
Than any boy had been anywhere he's been to.

He could be the One, this nice guy next door,
With a ready smile, but with shyness also.
He could be your true love, and maybe much more,
Your master and your slave, if you wanted it so.

He could be the love you search everywhere,
Hunting high and low in the smoke-filled bars,
Without seeing it from being too near,
So concentrated on finding him afar.

He could be the One, if you wished it so,
Your slave and your master, if you wanted more.
He could be shyness and a ready smile also,
He could be your true love, this nice guy next door.

He must be in love, the way he looks at you:
More handsome than most, at least to his eyes,
Than any boy had been anywhere he's been to.
If only I were you, I would love that guy.
